Spring Break is Just Around the Corner

The leaves are returning  and we know that spring is just around the corner!  As the sun heats up, grab a good book, blanket and visit a far away place!!
This is the perfect time of year to read a new book.  Please encourage your students to read and let them Catch You Reading!!  It can be a book, magazine or newspaper.  Start a conversation about something both of you have read.

I am very excited about the goals that your teen and I have determined --ask them what we are working on!
Check your student's planner - we are evaluating Spring FCAT scores!
If you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at 547-9000 from 2:35-3:00 OR click on my name below and send me an email!

Thank you for allowing me to teach your student!

FCAT RETAKES are March 2008  Scores should be here by early May!!

ACT-
IF your student is a junior or senior and has not passed the FCAT, it is  in their BEST interest to take the ACT.  Any student earning a score of 15 in Math and/or Reading may apply for an FCAT waiver.  The ACT is given at Holmes County High School three times each year.  The next testing date is April 2008.  See guidance to register or register online.  Take advantage of this outstanding opportunity!

THE FAMILY TABLE - RESEARCH SHOWS THAT FAMILIES THAT EAT TOGETHER SHARE MORE THAN THE AVERAGE MEAL.   VOCABULARY INCREASES, COMMUNICATION SKILLS INCREASE AND YOU LEARN ALOT ABOUT YOURSELVES.  MAKE A DATE - PICK A NIGHT AND EAT TOGETHER AT THE FAMILY TABLE!!!

CONVERSATION STARTERS:
What is your favorite class this year?
Who is your favorite teacher this year?  MRS. SOMERSET, OF COURSE!!!
What is your FCAT score in Reading?
How many developmental points do you need to score a Level 3??
Have you read a book this year??
Do you know who the President is???
What about the Vice President??

DID YOU KNOW????
Increasing the number of words spoken in your home will increase your child's reading level???

Extra Credit:  on a piece of paper write down at least three reading strategies that a good reader uses.  Ask your parents to sign the paper and return to school!!

Check Out the "Tools of Learning"
The navigation sidebar has a variety of parent resources.
