BLOCK PERIOD days are usually  Lab Days.  It is important for students to be in school everyday, but especially on lab/block days.  When students miss labs, often it is difficult for them to find the time to make them up.  Sometime the labs involve live organisms and cannot be made-up, requiring written reports with excused absences.

FOCUS QUESTIONS are on the board when students enter the classroom.  They are questions designed to get students focused on the topic immediately upon entering the classroom.  Students are expected toanswer the question within 5 minutes and be ready to discuss the answer.  The points earned are BONUS POINTS added to their chapter test.  Talk you your child and make sure he or she is taking advantage of this opportunity.

PROGRESS REPORTS are given out after the 4th week of the 9 weeks.  They are due back signed by the parent/guardian within 1 week for a 100 daily grade.  If not returned signed by the parent/guardian, it is a zero daily grade.

Students should have a 1 inch NOTEBOOK devoted to biology.  The notebooks are to be kept current.  The student should have a copy of the syllabus and other reference materials as well as the current homework, labs, notes and activities in their notebook.  The Notebook outline on the back of the syllbus details what should be in the notebook and the order of the assignments as well as the value of each part of the notebook.  The notebook counts as a LAB grade and will be taken up and graded around the 7th week of the 9 weeks.
